Round Number Finals |
Date: | 28-Aug-2011 |
| Burraneer : 24 Vs Dural: 24 |
| |
The boys were up against Dural in the Grand Final who had defeated us both home and away. Dural are a big outfit and Dave McGrath, the coach had given the boys some cunning tactics to wear out the Dural team in the first half. The plan was to ensure we tackled in numbers on the big boys and kicked at every opportunity to turn them around.
We started well following the tactics but unfortunately Dural broke through our defence and scored the first try followed by a conversion. The boys lifted though taking the game to Dural by running the ball, contrary to the tactics and Beau Grimley scored the next two tries without conversion before Dural managed to get a further two unconverted tries much against the run of play. |

The Burra boys came out fighting in the second half and spent much of the time camped in the Dural half. There where a number of notable runs from Cooper Harris and Conor McGrath in the forwards. The backs tackled like their lives depended on it and helped the forwards to set attack after attacked. And then against the run of play again Dural broke free to score a try that was easily converted. With less than 10 minutes to go the boys pressed forward again and were awarded a penalty about 10m from the Dural try line. Beau Grimley had started a run and by the time he called for the tap from Oscar Lekovic was speeding like the Newcastle Flyer, there was no stopping him and he went over the try line to score. He then stepped up to convert his try.

A converted try was all we needed to get a draw. From the kick off the boys again took the game to Dural and attack after attacked was well defended by the Dural team and it looked like we wouldn’t make it. Then in desperation to keep Burra out Dural gave away several penalties one after the other until Kyle Peakman took a quick tap and dived over the try line to score. Unfortunately Beau Grimley had come off with a bloody nose so Kyle stepped up to take the conversion after the hooter had sounded. With the last kick of the game he slotted the conversion to give Burra the joint Premiership with Dural.
It is the stuff fairy tales are made of, to see these boys rise the way the have to take the Premiership was just bloody magnificent. |

Round Number 6 |
Date: | 22-May-2011 |
| Burraneer Porpoises: 12 Vs East Wallaroos Blue: 29 |
| |
The match started evenly and for 15 minutes both sides attacked and defending well. East Walleroos then succeeded in landing 3 runaway tries before half time. This score line could have been match worse if it were not for Keegan's defence at full back.
Burra started the second half much better than they had finished the first and after another Beau Grimley run Oscar dived over for Burra's first try. Kyle then converted and we were back in the game. Burra threatened the East Wallaroos on a number of occasions
including having one try attempt ruled as held up.
Unfortunately East Wallaroos had one boy who was particulary fast and he scored two more tries before Conor went over for our second try after a sensational run from Cooper.
The second half was all even with just the first half letting the boys down.

Round Number 5 |
Date: | 15-May-2011 |
| Burraneer Porpoises: 7 Vs Hunters Hill Red: 52 |
| |
Hunters Hill Red are really the Joeys country boys team and unfortunately for the Burra boys they lived up to their reputation.
In the first half Hunters Hill landed 6 unanswered tries against Burra but not without a valient effort at defence from the Burra boys. Rory's tackling was a stand out.
In the second half Burra raised their game and were rewarded with a try to Rory which Beau then converted. Burra continued to play out of their skins for the rest of the second half.
However as the game was drawing to a close Hunters Hill scored another couple of tries.

Round Number 4 |
Date: | 08-May-2011 |
| Burraneer Porpoises: 25 Vs Wakehurst: 40 |
| |
Burraneer started off well going two tries to one up. Beau showed his strength again with our first two tries. We then traded tries with Wakehurst, Ethan scoring for Burra, before Wakehurst equalised just before half time.
Unfortunatley for Burraneer, Wakehurst had converted all their tries and so were 6 points ahead at half time.
The boys went out in the second half taking the game to Wakehurst and were rewarded with a third try to Beau. At this point we thought the boys would come good and win the game.
Unfortunately Wakehurst put another 3 tries past Barraneer to only one reply from Keegan. Wakehurst also managed to convert two of these tries making the final score look a lot worse when it was only 6 tries to 5.
